Remarkably Mark #156: Becak Ride in JogJakarta

Remarkably Mark #156: Becak Ride in JogJakarta

We zip through the streets of JogJakarta, experiencing the unique Becak (Betch-ak), a man-powered tricycle rickshaw. It's a nice way to see the city, since zipping by in a tour bus, you don't see people's faces so much, and you don't get the smells and sounds of the city.

Remarkably Mark #155: Singing with Endah

Remarkably Mark #155: Singing with Endah

While in Jakarta for Pesta Blogger, I got to sing with a great band, Endah & Rhesa, in the lounge between sessions. They are very talented, and were selling CD's to benefit an organization which transcribes books into braille for the blind.

More pictures from my amazing trip to Indonesia, as we arrive in the capital of Jakarta for Pesta Blogger. I met some "Gadis Gila", or "Crazy girls", while eating "nasi gila" at the hawker stalls (crazy rice)!

Remarkably Mark #154: Kecak Dance in Bali

Remarkably Mark #154: Kecak Dance in Bali

While in Bali, we attended a Kecak performance at Pura Uluwatu, a temple on a cliff guarded by monkeys everywhere (who will steal things from you if you don't watch out!). The Kecak (Ketch-ak) is a Balinese Hindu telling of the Ramayana, and all the music is created a capella by a chorus of men.

Remarkably Mark #152: My Vote

Well, I actually videotaped my own vote, partly to document it in this age of questionable election results, and partly just because I have the technology!

Remarkably Mark #151: Special Election Report

Remarkably Mark #151: Special Election Report

Report from the Sutton Place Synagogue, 225 E. 51st St, New York City:

Reports of problems at the 9th District, voters claimed they were not on the rolls and were refused provisional "affidavit" ballots. When we arrived, we spoke with Election Protection volunteers who reported on what they saw. Once inside, we found no irregularities, and the polling location coordinator assured us she had had no reports of irregularities.

Stiva and I attend the 35th Annual Greenwich Village Halloween Parade with my friend and next door neighbor Regina. She's Elphaba, the Wicked Witch, and Stiva is a chef, while I dress as a T-Bone Steak. We had a blast!
